Iris von Arnim combines comfort, luxury, and elegance with her dreamy cashmere fashions – and has been doing so for over 40 years

When I think about Iris von Arnim, I immediately see images from the island of Sylt in the North Sea. I think about our family vacations in the 90s, where my father would have to convince us kids to get outside in the fresh air, to go for walks through the wind and rain. Today, when sitting at my desk for hours on end, I sometimes wish there were dunes nearby. Sorry, dad – today, I’d come along with no complaints.

Iris von Arnim founded her knitwear label over 40 years ago and has shown like almost no other that tradition and modernity can and should be brought together. The focus on the core competence – creative (seemingly limitless) creations made of cashmere – has paid off. It is evident in their designs that they are still having fun inventing new, playful interpretations. The woman wearing them is also touched upon  – and subtly highlighted. The designer described her knitwear “as a friend that knows best what you need. Rather gentle, with this unique touch that comforts you.”

In 2013, under the leadership of her son Valentin, the collection was expanded to include a men’s line. A children’s collection was also recently added. The fashion house from Hamburg is not sitting still. Inspired by this momentum, here are a few of our favorites:
