Franziska Nellessen is the head of brand marketing and communications of EDITED and gives us a glimpse into her life. An interview
The life of Franziska Nellessen looks like a girlhood dream come true. Her home and the official seat of her office are in Hamburg, the design studio of her employer EDITED in Berlin. As the head of brand marketing and communications, she produces editorial after editorial in breathtaking speed, but even with that workload doesn’t forget to let her Instagram followers in on it all first hand.
Although I’ve astoundingly never met Franziska in real life, I find her extremely likeable: I value her clean visual language, the selection of her motifs, the mix of work and play. Very clearly she’s the type of person you should keep an eye on: 33 years old, a former student of the Akademie Mode und Design in Berlin (AMD for short, and Franziska studied fashion and design management), highly ambitious, and blessed by good taste. Please describe your style in three words?
My boyfriend recently said I either dress like a kindergarten kid – I love to mix and match patterns, prints, and fabrics – or like a homeless guy in big bomber jackets, hoodies, and jogging pants. Which is kind of true. But I also like very feminine dresses and blouses by Caroline Constas, Lisa Marie Fernandez, or vintage bargains. So maybe the key three words are: playful, easy, comfy.
First fashionable memory?
In elementary school I loved to wear lilac wool tights and big colorful sweaters.
Your ideal breakfast?
Porridge and coffee, with a lot of time on my hands and magazines or newspapers.
The song that makes you dance?
There are a lot of songs that make me dance. Right now my whole team is going crazy to Mask Off by Future.
The book you’ve reread many times?
As a teenager, Ride the Wind by Lucia St. Clair Robson. Now I prefer to read new books, two or three at a time.

Your childhood hero?
The piece(s) of jewelry you wear every single day?
The Love Lasso ring by Zoe & Morgan. If I’m having a “jewelry day,” I mix it up with a couple of rings by Margova Jewellery.
The designer you expect big things from?
The designer you would love to wear head to toe when you are a granny?
Grey and pink.
Your signature shoes?
My choice of shoes always depends on my mood and workload/location for the day.

What’s your dream car?
A black Mercedes G-Class.
What are the top three things on your wish list?
An oversized faux fur coat, a Chloé suit, and an oversized cashmere sweater.

Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann, or A Single Man by Tom Ford.

I don’t plan my life like that. I just go with the flow.
What was the last (cultural) discovery that blew your mind?
Holbox (in Mexico) was quite amazing: Mind-blowing beaches, horseback riding into the sunset, super tasty food, and chilled-out yoga classes.
Top three magazines (online or off)?
Spanish Vogue, Into the Gloss, and ID.
Julia co-founded one of the first fashion blogs in Germany in 2007 and became a freelance consultant for digital strategies after publishing her first book in 2010. After an eventful four years with Condé Nast working mainly in the digital department of Vogue Germany, she decided to launch her own online magazine with her dream partner, Veronika Heilbrunner. She is based in Berlin and loves to read books.
