Lookbook: Isabel Marant Étoile

Lookbook Accessoires Fall/Winter 2017/2018

Isabel Marant Étoile remains true to its usual mix of patterns this coming season. Our fashion editor Madeleine takes a peek at the lookbook

The summer 2018 lookbook for Isabel Marant Étoile was shot by Christian MacDonald (@christian_macdonald_studio), styled for model Andreea Diaconu, who belongs to the French label’s circle of friends. The visual team is spot-on, as is the collection – out of 32 looks, the hit rate is 100% (for me at least).

The French designer’s second line has always been influenced by travel, by African and Indonesian influences. Sporty breaks are always involved, which can often be found in the main line as well. In any case, Isabel Marant’s first backpacking trip to Africa at the age of 17 seems to have left its mark – a love of color and materials has stuck with her.

And this season is also a wild mix. Whether patterns and materials or basics and highlights styled with much-loved classics and shapes, the desire to combine them ranges from looks with a sporty bomber jacket and mini skirt, a mini skirt with a long parka, or a short parka with mixed-pattern pants all the way to stirrup pants worn with a mixed-pattern bomber. The simple favorite sweater also couldn’t be forgotten, paired with classic signature jeans. My favorite look: denim pants with a jeans blouse and bomber.

In any case, the credo here is: If you like it, it’s allowed! There’s always a small detail that makes you absolutely want each piece. Season after season, the main line’s little sister stays true to its style – and that’s the most beautiful thing about Isabel Marant Étoile. The wish list has been made, everyone is delighted (me). Happy ending.

Good news: Warmer, workwear-inspired pieces and tweed and lambskin jackets will be available before the end of winter.

The accessory lookbook for Fall/Winter 2017 is also pretty nice. Jean-Baptiste Talbourdet-Napoleone (@jbtalbourdet) staged the collection in the form of still-life photography. For me, the small shoulder bags are the highlight. From this season on, there will only be one line of accessories instead of two separate ones.
