A whole regiment of lotions in all sorts of colors and fragrances accompanied me through my teenage years. Body Lotion by Nivea, Dove and other drugstore brands gathered in the family bathroom – products that were used on a daily basis. Every now and then, I snarfed one of my mother’s bottles and simultaneously paid attention to replenishment, so that we were never out of stock.
As years went by my taste in cosmetics changed. Instead of drugstore brands, apothecary goods and organic cosmetics went into my shopping basket, and ultimately they were replaced by niche products, purchased at chic concept stores or in the width of the internet. Suddenly and almost unrecognizably the lotions were removed from my bathroom cabinet and oils became the new center of my beauty routine. However, now that summer is right around the corner, they can stay in the cabinet for a while and make room for light and scented body care, that absorbs quickly. These are our favorites!
1. Body Delight by A4 Cosmetics
The body cream Body Delight stands up to its name: a texture, that is the right degree between liquid and solid, is absorbed quickly and leaves me with nothing but a fresh smell reminiscent of lemon. It doesn’t stick or stain and you can get dress right after applying it.
The combination of Swiss deep spring water, argan and avocado oil as well as extracts from micro seaweed provides you with moisture and gives your skin back its natural elasticity and suppleness. The cream shall prevent from dents and stretch marks and it’s even supposed to repair areas that were affected already.
The skin does indeed feel more flexible after a while. Often you don’t really know what is responsible for that or whether it’s just your own imagination. Anyway, that is the case with most anti-cellulite promises. What really counts is how the skin feels. In this case: smooth, soft and supple.
2. H&M Conscious Vitalizing Body Lotion
After Conscious Fashion, that is sustainable clothing, H&M now follows up with conscious beauty. Whereas the previous assortment included an endless range of low-priced nail polish, vanity bags, brushes and tweezers, the beauty shelves now offer more sustainable products for skin, hair and body in a new design. The whole line was certified as organic by Ecocert.
There are also various body lotions in simple, beautiful dispensers. The Vitalizing Body Lotion is especially good – lime makes for its fresh and fruity smell. It also contains aloe vera with has a relaxing and anti-inflammatory effect. Shea butter and cocoa butter ensure rich nurture of you skin without weighing it down or leaving a oily film. Furthermore grape seed oil and almond oil provide the skin with moisture, If you mix it all together the result is a lotion that stimulates the senses.
3. Bioeffect Body Intensive Body Serum
Ever since serums appeared on our beauty radar a while ago, for cosmetic enthusiasts, they are part of the inventory in almost every bathroom. Yet, most of them are skin care products. And a body serum for intensive care makes just as much sense. The body serum by Bioeffect has the texture of a light lotion, but the extra care effect of a serum. As with every product by Bioeffect, EGF is the main ingredients of the serum. The protein, which is aöso known as a cell activator, was discovered by Stanley Cohen and Rita Levi-Montalcini and was awarded with a Nobel Prize in Medicine.
The EGF protein that is extracted from barley and it stimulates the elastine and collagen production in the cell core and also works as an anti-aging product.
And what works for sensitive facial skin is good for the body as well. A luxury lotion for dry, stressed skin, so to say.
4. Ellis Brooklyn Verb Excellent Body Milk
Bee Shapiro, beauty columnist at the New York Times regretted the absence of a natural body lotion, that does not make any cutbacks in terms of scent and texture. As she did not find anything she promptly decided to create a lotion herself, that is to say one that suits her taste.
Wonderfully scented lotions in beautiful dark green glass bottles are the result of that idea. Ellis Brookly, the etiquette says – it is the name of Bee’s daughter, that turned into the brand name without further ado. Bee developed the fragrances together with her perfumer Jerome Epinette, who created scents for Chloé and Byredo, already. Every cream is handmade in New York. My favorite Verb, smells like bergamot, mandarin, basil, musk and cedar wood. Even long after the application the skin still feels silky smooth and delicately smells like pinewood and a summer garden in the South of France.
5. Haelgel Body
The content of this pretty white and yellow tube is rather a body gel than a cream. Light and moisturizing it smoothes dry and irritated skin while being sensitive. Extracts from arnica work soothing and anti-inflammatory and release tension. Madecassoside, won out of tiger grass, eases irritation and redness. Moreover, the gel has a cooling effect, so it’s the perfect remedy for exposed skin on hot summer days.
