The first time I met Zackery Michael was when we were doing a shoot this year, which was – no surprise here – based on a song. His favorite album is the monumental “AM” by Arctic Monkeys and at that point I don’t need to look for any further for reasons why we instantly connected. When he was a boy, he used to go on road trips with his father and uncles and would obsessively listen to cassettes for hours. Later he started playing in bands and dropped out of film and photography school to move to New York. After working for the renowned photographer Sebastian Kim he decided to pursue a career of his own and had the good fortune of being able to call Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar US his first clients.
Despite his remarkable journey behind the camera, he stays true to the rock ’n’ roll in his blood. His favourite band, The Eagles, keep his dream of spending nights sitting around campfires and eventually (in order to do all this daily) moving to Los Angeles alive, all he needs to do now is buy his own motorcycle. He’ll be fleeing the chilling temperatures of winter in the northeast to surf in Nicaragua this year (smart boy!) and dreams of playing music with legendary DJ Rick Rubin in Malibu. Until this happens, he was gracious enough to put together a playlist for us – best heard while getting ready for your own New Year’s bash. As the sage David Bowie would say: “Let’s dance!”
