Favorite of the Week: RMS Beauty

RMS Beauty

This week we celebrate RMS Beauty as our favorite product, promising makeup and care all in one

With makeup, I like it simple. Just a few products – a bit of cheek color, a little gloss and mascara – used daily and completely sufficient. At best, they’re free of chemicals, nurturing and beautifying all at the same time and, on top of that, have beautiful packaging. Recently on the hunt for new all-around products, I discovered RMS Beauty. The description, “skincare with mineral pigments, the slightly different makeup,” made me curious. “RMS” are the initials of Rose-Marie Swift. The woman who bears the name is a makeup artist, working in the field of beauty and fashion for over 20 years. After becoming seriously ill, with test results confirming that chemicals in cosmetics could be a potential reason for her health problems, she decided to start her own cosmetic line, one that completely refrained from the use of chemical components. Natural biological ingredients, such as coconut oil, are largely preserved in their original forms and enriched with pure minerals as colorants. The result is a “Color makeup line that works together with the skin,” according to Rose-Marie.

I not only tested the products and discovered my favorites; I also sought out Rose-Marie to tell us about RMS and the philosophy behind it.

Living Luminizer

LIVING LUMINIZER, € 38.00 via Amazingy

From loose powder over creams to sticks, I tested my way through the highlights on offer all before I held the Living Luminizer from RMS Beauty in my hands. After that, I wouldn’t let it go: untreated castor and coconut oil and beeswax create the base of the light cream. Titanium dioxide and mica ensure the gloss effect (it doesn’t need artificial glitter particles to shimmer) and rosemary extract acts as a natural preservative. “When a raw material is processed for use in cosmetics, it typically undergoes a lengthy process, from deodorizing, refining, and heating to extremely high temperatures again during manufacturing, they lose their natural properties whether they’re biological or not. You can no longer distinguish them from laboratory-made artificial ingredients,” explains Rose-Marie. Therefore the ingredients in RMS products are left in their natural form. The vitamins, enzymes and anti-oxidants within them are retained to benefit the skin with their nourishing properties. The result, in Rose-Marie’s words: “Living Beauty.”

And really, rather than laying on it like a film, the Luminizer virtually melts into the skin. The natural mother of pearl shimmer gives my tanned skin and extra portion of freshness and brings my winter-pale rosy cheeks and eyelids porcelain radiance. At the same time, it conceals and emphasizes, optically lifting the eyebrows, giving the impression of a narrower nose and fuller lips – the trompe l’oeil of the cosmetics world, so to speak. My personal highlight! (And apparently not only mine, on niche-beauty.com the Luminizer is currently sold out, but it will soon be back in the collection – promise!)

Raw Coconut Creme

Favorite of the Week: RMS Beauty

“Hands down, the coconut oil,” comments Rose-Marie when asked about her own beauty favorite. Oil from coconut is a natural anti-oxidant and the high levels of lauric acid (saturated fat) give it an antibacterial effect. Of course, she’s brought a cream of that very oil in untreated form into the assortment. “Whether it’s used as a makeup remover, cleansing cream, lip protection, or to bring lashes and brows into form, the possible uses are endless,” according to Rose-Marie. We’ve already reported on the oil as a kitchen-cosmetic wonder, the RMS variant is naturally much more practical and nicely packaged. A perfect companion on the road, replacing at least five other products in the beauty bag.

Lip 2 Cheek

Often “Two in One” doesn’t deliver what it promises. Luckily, I experimented with shampoo and conditioner in a single bottle in my younger years, so I can shelve that as a youthful indiscretion. That said, I had a successful outcome with the lip and cheek rouge from RMS. Many colors, one principle: the nourishing cream makes cheeks AND lips rosy to red. The perfect nuance for me is Promise, a peach tone that immediately made me look healthy. All together seven different color tones are offered, with something for every taste. The basis of the products is the same as the ingredients in the Luminizer. Supplemented by further nurturing additives like, for example, argan oil and cocoa butter, the tinted balm ensures tender lips and a fresh complexion. “The beauty concepts of the 40s and 50s is reflected in the design of the glass jar as well as in the idea of a cream rouge,” says Rose-Marie. With this source of inspiration in mind it was clear: no compromises were made in the creation of the products. “Success wasn’t the absolute priority. Much more I wanted to stay true to my concept, our health shouldn’t pay the price for a ‘quick-fix to looking good’ under any circumstances.”
