Editor’s Pick: Tabitha Simmons Espadrilles

Thank you Tabitha, for this gift to our feet! Mine are more than delighted. But let’s start at the beginning: My mother’s admonition to only wear espadrilles when the weather is nice makes sense to me. They are by definition the summer shoes we surely all agree on that. A couple of years ago the first luxury versions dropped – I would say Valentino was one of the first with beautiful romantic lace – nowadays you see people walking on rope soles everywhere, be it university refectories or the luxury yacht. Only today, while strolling along the Via Montenapoleone in Milano, I found myself questioning if a product made of beautiful dark-blue croc-leather, like the Celine signature Espadrille Slipper I was just admiring, might just be simply contra productive. (Note to self: next time ask if the sole can be replaced when necessary) Back to my “Espallerinas“! The black tip makes the foot look smaller which is an advantage especially for larger sizes. The raw canvas is the perfect counterpart to the more girly shape and ankle strap. They go perfectly with my black cut off Levis shorts and with white silk- or crochet-knit dresses. Therefore, they are on my feet every day (when the weather forecast allows it).
