After almost two years in the German capital, I can confirm, autumn in Berlin is wonderful. Heaps of leaves mixed with buckeyes rustling on the ground, golden light and lots of sun that, as long as it shines, is actually still warm. When it disappears at about four in the afternoon into a pink-hued sky, you really want to make sure that you’re properly equipped for the weather.
Especially if, like me, you like to savor the last rays of sunshine from the back of a motorcycle. Because long jackets or even overcoats are quite impractical, they’re far too slippery to sit on, the ideal choice is hip length – to compensate for this, naturally your jeans have to be high cut and preferably tight, because it warms better.
Thus, for me, the ideal autumn / winter coat is a sheepskin coat – outside suede, inside warming fur. And how perfect that the right address for it just opened their flagship store in Berlin last week. You guessed it, of course I’m talking about Acne Studios. The Swedes have always made the best jeans and outerwear. The location of the new, huge shop is on Potsdamer Straße (between art galleries, Andreas Murkudis’ concept store, casinos and sex stores) is bold, because there’s almost no foot traffic here – but perhaps that’s why it’s 100% Acne. And therefore, not surprising that Acne Studios has designed this brave mélange of biker jacket and duffel coat, that not only looks cool – but is also very warm, aka: functional.
