Curtains up for “tailor made”: take a look at the result of our video series “Reveal the Iconic You”, produced in collaboration with smart
For everyone who’s followed my smart BRABUS inspiration tour over the last few months, I’ve now made a little making-of video in which I pass through every stop on our exciting journey and give each some much deserved appreciation.
In my last interview, Delfina Delettrez mentioned how incredibly wonderful waiting for a made-to-order product is. I can only agree with her – and the enjoyment of it all grows immeasurably when your tailor made item is finally in front of you.
If, like me, you also spent some sleepless nights this fall with the fantastic series Stranger Things and The Crown, you’ll certainly recognize my styling. And since we’re now touching on royal themes: My smart is basically the reincarnation of the carriage King Ludwig is meant to have roamed through the snowy winter landscape in – or at least I found that obvious in the finale of Helmut Dietl’s series Kir Royal. So smart BRABUS created a very special glitter-infused dark blue for me, one that was supposed to remind me of the ball of light in the bedroom of the fairy-tale king at Schloss Herrenchiemsee: velvet blue!
So that the rims would look especially stately in Royal Gold, I designed the rest of the interior completely in black. Concentrating on the essentials (for example, a special material like suede because the color makes it glow with a real intensity) is something Max Schiller from Eytys explained to me.

I was fascinated by Delfina Delettrez’ explanation that she definitely believes in the aura of colors. In any case, she gives the colors she uses their own meaning. So the red ruby on my smart’s gear shift knob shows me the way to fulfilling my dreams – which, if you believe in them hard enough, will become a reality.
At the Königlichen Porzellan Manufaktur (KPM) in Berlin, I was as impressed by the traditional craftsmanship as I was with sole proprietor Jörg Woltmann’s engagement there – he’s successfully brought the Berlin company into the present. I paid tribute to this inspiring visit by having my initials embroidered on the driver’s seat.

That Kym Ellery’s coated fabrics from her summer collection would keep me dry under the shower – that’s definitely something I learned that will stay in my memory, not to mention the aches that all the laughter gave me. But my visit just hours before the Ellery show revealed one thing to me above all else: I can hardly wait to finally hit the Berlin streets! Because as I’m sure you remember (if you didn’t already know): movement brings out the full coolness of Kym Ellery’s creations.
And if you still haven’t had enough, you can take a further look behind the scenes here:
