A deep red sunset, cocktails with umbrellas, palm trees, surfers with long bleached hair, shimmering turquoise water. All this couldn’t sound more like paradise, but I’m currently sitting in a car on the way to a morning appointment, driving through the pouring rain and wintery gray drabness. In my head I’m going through my day. There’s a lot to do, it’s the beginning of January. My light at the end of the tunnel, aka the to-do list for today: drinks with my friend Jana – whether it’s with or without umbrellas, I’m so happy about it, it’s almost like I have a meeting with Elvis. And to celebrate this fittingly (and to stick with the introductory mantra), I’ve decided to wear a Hawaii shirt, one that the King of Rock n’ Roll should definitely consider for his resurrection.
Because, this great piece is very cool in midnight blue and satin. The big ornamental sequins are almost worthy of an appearance in Vegas and the wide cut of the polo shirt creates the perfect casual (an 80s word that I seldom use but it just fits too well here) contrast. It’s possible to do some great styling with this shirt. Tonight, definitely with wide cut black pants and my rose-colored Stan Smiths from Raf Simons. Jana (loves maraschino cherries and glittering lip kisses) will be in seventh heaven when she sees my polo from Dries van Noten. And, of course, because of my secret passion for collecting Hawaiian shirts. Secret, because I don’t wear them, rather I like to buy them for my boyfriend, father, brother, and so on, and because, despite my predilection, I had yet to find one that really looks great on women. Until now. Thanks Dries! And, of course: Aloha from Berlin!
