I like to look forward. For me, de-briefings always end in clever ideas of how I could have done everything better. But what was funny about this year is that there wasn’t so much that I could have done better.
I’m still endlessly fascinated by the casual question, “What actually, really interests you?” This platform was the answer to that very question during a conversation between Julia and I in August 2014 at the Chipperfield Kantine (at the time it was my first visit, it’s since become my favorite spot for brain food and our beloved update conversations).
Therefore, first a HUGE thank you to my partner (yup, founding a limited liability company is almost as binding as a marriage) Julia Knolle. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am without her entrepreneurial zeal. And there’s no one else for whom I would rather make an exception and look back over my last year (it feels like rummaging through an archive, but, based on my aforementioned aversion for recaps it’s a little like unloved homework).
Likewise, the foundation of our company wouldn’t have been possible without our two private super supporters (who will remain unnamed here, but they know exactly who they are). And without our Julia Fricke, who we pretty much couldn’t live without. #simplythebest
Because HW! already has various summaries about fashion (Resort Trends, NYFW, LFW, MFW, PFW and the SS16 trends), I focused on the moments that I didn’t share, (unpublished images, YAY!) – have fun clicking through!
Our first shot with David Bornscheuer was for our “We’re online” mail. The mood was definitely good – even though I almost missed my Chanel Couture show afterwards.
A hairstyle I’ll probably never wear, yet it embellished my desktop for a few weeks. Anna Ewers photographed by Camilla Akrans for Vogue Germany
These winged Valentino were unfortunately never an editors pick because they’re only couture and made to measure.
The view of The Row show in February from the famous Seagram building in New York was unforgettably good. As was the styling for the show with great velvet slippers from Charvet and the new Drum Bag.
Still mind-blowing: Erdem’s Hitchcock-inspired set where the models took last place.
Always a joy, despite her busy schedule: the inspiring lunch with power woman Mira Duma. #heywomantalksbusiness
The models of the hour backstage at the Louis Vuitton Show. RG from Nicholas Ghesquière: Lorelle Rayner with Lockenbob and Fernanda Ly and her pink mane. Also, my favorite styling: the ribbed rope and chain belt!
The close-up of my favorite Saint Laurent platform sandals comes from the coolest series with Gracie Hartzel (#love) photographed by Theo Wenner (#love), styled by Julia Sarr-Jamois (#obsessed) for i-D.
We went online at the same time as my birthday. The Polt quote on the card from my brother Felix (who bravely and without complaints edited our texts for the first few months, also because he liked the change from correcting German schoolwork) says it all. #yolo
It just works best in pajamas #heywomanbehindthescenes #heywomaneditorspick
At the moment there’s barely time for styling. That’s why my pride was all the greater when the Laurence Ellis photographed series with Lili Sumner was finally launched. Even better: including the fantastic Magdalena Frackowiak with her own jewelry collection! Bravo amore!!!
Because I obviously talk too much, I’ll let the professional, aka Justin O’Shea, speak about his trend forecast. #badass
Meanwhile, Alicia Vikander is wearing the most fairytale like Valentino Couture robe at the Cannes film festival (she’s walking for Macbeth on the red carpet). Since “Ex Machina” – definitely one of my favorite film in 2015 next to “Mad Max” (see Free Abbey). I’m totally addicted to the Swede.
Fashion boss Birgit Schlotterbeck’s comment hits the nail on the head: “Some people have strange jobs.” An outtake from our shoot in my favorite restaurant Diner Tattersall for the German Grazia.
My favorite part of the Fondazione Prada is obvious. #velvetobsession
It not only looks so, it is so: photos, photographers and being photographed is my favorite occupation and luckily my profession. I am particularly pleased that we won back the talented Julia Zierer (hidden behind the camera in this picture) for hey woman!.
Funnily enough, I discovered the great West Village surf shop before I was able to realize that the founder, Morgan Collett, is a friend of a friend. Even better is his play list for hw!
Glenda’s (Glenda Bailey, editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar US) fine smile speaks to me from her soul. From the first second until now, this dream of Gucci hasn’t left my head. Karen Elson wore this tiger dress on the same night as a private concert for Alessandro Michele.
Whether the fabulous Laura Brown is reenacting a scene from GoT or simply wore it by accident at a Havannah (= the subject of Stella McCartney’s resort presentation)? Doesn’t matter. All’s well that ends well.
Jamie Bochert wore my favorite dress from Versace couture in the show. I’m not exactly sure why Maria Carla Boscone wore the dress just a few minutes later. One thing is for sure, Cher is back!
The most fashionable dinner at the most elegant restaurant in Paris (Le Grand Vefour) with the wildest crowd (Stella Tennant, Kanye West, Mica Arganaraz, Tilda Swinton, G-Dragon and Marisa Berenson) invited by none other than the fantastic Haider Ackermann together with mytheresa. #BOOM
The chainmail shirt at Dior’s last couture show definitely aren’t made for real life. But they were just as definitely a pioneer for the pre-a-porter net optics that followed two months later. I’m still shocked by Raf Simons departure.
The couture fairytale continued in the Eternal City of Rome, culminating with a visit to the studios. More here.
For me, the Belles Rives in Antibes is the nicest hotel of 2015! They say that F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote Tender is the Night here. But you have to be there to understand how breathtakingly beautiful and well decorated it is.
In Picasso’s footsteps in his last home. Cartier made it possible and invited us to a very private, very stunning dinner and tour. #etourdissantcartier
Already in August at Ganni in Copenhagen and in the fall at all the FW’s from NY to Paris: Models with shaved heads. My favorite here.
The beautiful couture ateliers on the Rue de l’Universite are reopened after years of renovation: What’s crazy (other than the fantastic rooms and gardens), Hedi’s potential clientele must be personally invited.
My personal favorite of 2015: JK with loose hair after a visit to Mr. Kurkowitz.
Finally back “in stock”: the pug vase!!!!!
Thank you dear Elizabeth! Thank you dear Alexia! The extra publication with and from Jürgen Teller, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is a collector’s item. Here’s the proof.
As I was waiting for my black, custom tailored suit from Jake Mueser, I secretly wore Justin’s white suit as a test. Naturally, because the theme of the shoot was the Boyfriend (from Chanel).
Alexander Wang in platform boots anyone??? Lexi Boling is one of those models that really can make everything, everything, everything look elegant yet #badass.
Hello Gucci evolution!!! My enthusiasm knows no end. A special piece that I didn’t mention in any of my reports: the bag that is half Dionysus, half bamboo!
Thanks for the interview and thanks for listening: Garance Doré and Stephanie Mark invited us to an Apple Talk in the Opera store.
Winner of the Coolness Award is definitely the Australian designer Kym Ellery. It takes nerves of steel to have a show at the 9am slot before the 10am Chanel show. And damn good pants.
Thank you Charles, for the genius idea of the barrette, making braids easy!
My favorite pic of our motorcycle ride to the Miu Miu show is from Hugo… If you look closely, Olivier Zahm looks on bored in the background, because he’s almost always on the road with his moped.
The Petit Malle for SS16 is equipped with Western fittings. To match the minimalist cowboy boots. #obsessed
Pure happiness with Louis and George at the Palais Royal, after the last show is over and the last appointment is finished. Thank you for the “guest walk,” wonderful Dune!
And now the full disclosure picture: The two reasons my skin survived Fashion Week!
Gianvito Rossi, or I should simply say “Vito,” popped corks together with Elisabeth of Turn and Taxis and mytheresa at the Schloss Emmeram, as Mike Skinner provided the musical entertainment. Alfons Kaiser puts it even better.
And regarding my intentions for the new year, I’ll think like Mr. Wondrak. P.S. Thank you Tillmann for my favorite page ever!
Now, with a bang and the best for last: An assistant as such the world has never seen! Thank you for your tireless efforts and perpetually good mood JF! #simplythebestjf
