“Hey you sweet mouse!” And without hesitation, there was suddenly a red kiss, smack on my lips. That or something similar sums up 50% of the encounters one has with Leyla Piedayesh, proprietor and Head of Everything from the Berlin label Lala Berlin: Always in a good mood and with a clever comment, occasionally a little hungover – as on a Sunday a month ago when we met for a video shoot at her former home, deep in Berlin’s Wedding neighborhood.
You almost couldn’t tell that the night before she had danced until the wee hours at a gala party and only slept for a few hours. During preparations for the shoot she tapped around on her cell phone: “Instagram, my new obsession,” she beamed at me. “Yeah, yeah,” I thought, you hear that a lot these days. But no! Look, her account is amazing! As much as I dug for the sources of the wonderful images, she didn’t reveal a thing. And somehow, that’s okay, they transported me to the strange hours of virtual dream worlds (sometimes she’ll post late at night or very early in the morning, very suitable for anyone suffering from insomnia). She answered a few questions for us here:
