Prada celebrates the premiere of their short film “Past Forward” by David O. Russell in L.A. with guests like Milla Jovovich and Demi Moore
Miuccia Prada never ceases to amaze with outstanding culture projects. After she initiated the literary event Prada Journal during the last months, she now explores the prolific connection between fashion and film. On November 15 “Past Forward” was premiered in Los Angeles. In the presence of a selected audience the short film was presented at the brand new Hauser Wirth & Schimmel Gallery – among the guests: Milla Jovovich, Zosia Mamet, Demi Moore as well as the entire movie cast and its director. In the following days the film was screened in other international metropolises. However, precise observers may have noticed that snippets of the film were shown during the SS 2017 runway show, earlier this fall.

“Past Forward” was directed by American filmmaker and screenwriter David O. Russell and stars “Girls” actor Allison Williams as well as Freida Pinto, John Krasinski, Paula Patton and many more. Miuccia Prada and David O. Russell decision to do a joint project was inspired by a well-grounded conversation they had had over dinner. And the result is something astounding: a keen experiment, half sci-fi thriller, half romance, that tries to capture the grand emotions, cinematically. The 12-minute movie gives us a glance into a day in the life of three women, that is presented in surreal, repeating (and exceedingly thrilling) scenes.
While watching we inevitably ask ourselves, whether it all stems from a distant memory, actual reality or it is all a dream. And whose story is it anyway? Eventually the shadowplay of the black and white mise en scene, an engaging soundtrack and the clever innuendo to René Magritte’s painting “The Lovers” make for the perfect cinematic experience.
