Linen is the summer comeback of all fabrics. Fashion editor Oriane on jackets, dresses, pants, and even shoes made out of our favorite textile
Summer: My favorite season and – finally – the occasion to wear linen and embrace the adventurer look! It’s not just the simplicity, casualness, and comfort that makes it my favorite fabric, but also how light and cool it is on hot and sunny days. Don’t get anxious about ironing that favorite dress over and over again – we like linen natural and relaxed, and those wrinkles are part of the package!
Every year the material suddenly reappears in the S/S collections, and every year I run for it and stock up. Jackets, dresses, pants, head-to-toe suits, and even shoes, there’s not a single item or accessory that hasn’t been made from this fabulous textile which, by the way, is made from the fibers of the flax plant. Yes, the same plant responsible for the flax seeds in your Bircher Muesli or Açaí bowl!
But this wasn’t always the case. In the 70s, linen was primarily reserved for home textiles. Its use in fashion was limited until it suddenly exploded in the 90s. And now its profile is rising once again and linen is making itself visible in our favorite shops and across the inspirational images on some of our beloved Instagram accounts. Linen is everywhere, and it’s definitely moved way beyond bed sheets!
From neutral tones to more colorful ones, below you’ll find some favorite options for summer. Stay cool!
