Veronika Heilbrunner styled her favorite summer pieces in an editorial for the Styleby Magazine while giving a little tour through Berlin
My start in Berlin wasn’t that easy: When I moved here three and a half years ago, it was during a very grey and super-cold January. But I fell in love as soon as spring came to brighten up the city with its warmth, bringing lots of green with it and those never-disappointing pink evening skies. It’s no surprise that my favorite time of the year is late summer leading into autumn, when the light and the leaves turn the city golden.
So when Jonna (Bergh, editor-in-chief of Swedish magazine Styleby) asked me to think of a way to personalize my favorite summer pieces, my answer was: Tour de Berlin.
Here (see left image above) you can see all my favorite items in one shot: the evening sun; the view of the Museumsinsel and the TV tower (some of Berlin’s iconic landmarks); the beautiful cast iron bridge at Friedrichstraße; Grill Royal ( my favorite dinner place, is just down the stairs next to the river); THE ruffle blouse with free shoulders is by Off White; my all-time favorite patent pant by Haider Ackermann; Converse All Stars in black (which are best in summer – I prefer my white ones in grey winter).
The Hansaviertel in Tiergarten is better than any museum with all the amazing housing projects there by famous architects from Alvar Aalto to Arne Jacobsen (see right image above). Of course my love for patent is endless, so I am crazy about this oversized trench coat by Acne Studios and feel like I’m in Derrick (an old German detective show). Corduroy is another favorite of mine, and it’s also great for the coming winter! Pants and boots also by Acne Studios, the t-shirt is vintage, and the sunglasses by Carrera.
I often go to bed thinking about how much I want to start my day at my favorite coffee and breakfast place, What Do You Fancy Love?, in Charlottenburg. My look of choice on a still-chilly summer morning is a hooded velvet dress by Holzweiler paired with my Chloé leather sneakers, Chanel Gabrielle backpack, Miu Miu sunglasses, and a juice with as many berries as possible!

My favorite hangout in Kreuzberg is the brutalist St.Agnes church where cult magazine 032c has its office and workshop – plus there’s the Johann König Galerie and their newly opened sculpture garden (from left to right clockwise: Anschauungsvorstellung by Alicja Kwade, the 032c Workshop entrance, Neusilber 2 by David Zink Li, Mirror Angle Fragments (60°) by Jeppe Hein, Cucumbers by Erwin Wurm). My obsession with contrast made me choose this romantic, yet tomboyish Chloé jumpsuit, my sparkly Miu Miu glasses for some bling, and of course the best sneakers there are: my all-white Nike Air Force 1s.
The Store (located in Soho House) is curated by my friend Alex Eagle and is the place to visit. Not only for the cool selection – they have everything from the hottest Balenciaga and Vetements pieces to Loewe, The Row, Comme des Garçons, Mansur Gavriel, and many more – it has also a great selection furniture such as the perfect velvet couches, marble tables, flowers, palm trees and cactus by Mary Lennox, beautiful books, vinyl, and a healthy and yummy selection for breakfast, lunch, or coffee by Johnnie Collins. My choice is this awesome ribbed t-shirt and, again, leather pants – this time cropped and vintage-looking, just perfect for hi-rise Converse All Stars.
A big obsession of mine since childhood is visiting castles: Nothing excites and relaxes me more in equal parts. Schloss Charlottenburg, or Charlottenburg Palace, is wonderfully located right here in town. On very hot days I take my bikini and favorite book and lay down on my towel between the trees. The beautiful pastel Belvedere pavilion always brings me joy when I see it peeking through the trees when I’m on my way home from Tegel airport. I kind of think of it as my lucky charm and, in my dreams, the city of Berlin calls me and tells me I’m allowed to move in.
For the perfect Sunday walk, I put on my best Chanel tweed coat that reminds me a bit of a very glam bathrobe. And of course it partners best with Levi’s jeans, a ribbed Wood Wood tank top, and Converse All Stars.
Another awesome landmark – this time in Mitte – is David Chipperfield’s office and the delicious canteen run by the owners of the restaurant Lokal that’s located in the backyard. It is still quite a private spot among Berliners and offers great, quick but wholesome dishes ranging from Leberkäse with fried eggs and homemade potato mash to a healthy salad with pumpkin seeds, apricots, mozzarella, and freshly baked bread. It’s wonderful for lunch and has such beautiful and minimalist, concrete surroundings. So this is the place to bring out my nerdy cardigan with lots of bling embroidery on the back and matching bag from Miu Miu. Perfect with the Acne Studios silk blouse, Levi’s Re/Done skirt, and Nike sneakers.
