I’m frequently asked about the new items in my bathroom cabinet. As a beauty editor you’re at the source and can usually try out the newest products and treatments before they’re even in stores.
Of course, it’s always interesting to learn what the latest hair mask or super serum can do. But I find the stories behind my favorite products just as exciting. From tried and true creams to the mascara that even after countless comparisons over the years still conjures up the most amazing lashes.
The absolute guarantee of a well-established or future all-time favorite is the empty packaging in my bathroom cabinet. Between the fantastic brand new products there are a few that are always ready in my bathroom and with them I’m “afraid” when the contents of the bottles or tubes are coming to an end.
These are a few of my personal beauty favorites that I use to the last drop and always replenish my bathroom cabinet with.
1. Soy Facial Cleanser from Fresh
I have not found a better face wash for myself to date. The light texture, the fresh smell, the feel of my skin after washing. Every night I look forward to lathering my face with it – a ritual like watching an episode of my favorite series before going to bed. Unfortunately, my new discovery from New York isn’t available for purchase in Germany. Therefore, I still have to do collective overseas orders and every time I, or someone else, travels to New York or another city where there’s a Sephora, and thus usually the Fresh brand, I place an on-the-go shopping order.
2. Huile Prodigieuse from Nuxe
To me there is nothing that smells so much like summer in southern France, like sun and relaxation, as this golden oil, which became a part of my permanent beauty repertoire after a vacation to the Côte d’Azur a few years ago. It can be used during every season of the year. I’ll mix a few drops with my body lotion, I’ll wear it pure on my neck and décolleté, add a few drops to my hair ends ends, or a few drops in my bathwater. It doesn’t contain any mineral oil, rather extracts from plant oils like oregano, almond, camellia, macadamia, hazelnut and St. John’s wort.
Depending on the season and my mood, I’ll pair the oil with a scent. But also wearing only the oil smells heavenly and makes my skin soft and happy.
The bottle with the golden lid comes on every single trip with me. The little 50ml variant fits in my carry-on. And when I don’t want to take a heavy bottle of perfume, the fragrant oil is the perfect replacement for perfume and body care at the same time.
3. Facial Spray from Mario Badescu
Still a relative newcomer, but already quite clear: a product for the list of favorites. I’ll spray the freshness from the bottle in the morning after showering and before further facial care and in the evening after cleansing and before using a night cream on my face. And it’s also used in between: at my desk, when my eyes are almost closing, before yoga, after yoga. The nurturing fresh kick for the skin with aloe vera, herbal extracts and rosewater awakens, beautifies and is totally addictive.
4. Living Luminizer from RMS Beauty
This highlighter is an everyday product for me. Like others who never leave the house without applying mascara, I (almost) never leave the house without wearing highlighter. The transparent, shimmering, creamy Luminizer from RMS is still my favorite. It conceals dark shadows under the eyes, visually raises the eyebrows, and models your face, giving it an overall healthy and beautiful glow. It’s also quite economical. The small tin lasts forever because you only need a few daubs for your entire face.
5. Complexe Energisant Haarkur from Elenor Greyl
I’ve only recently discovered these small capsules. They contain a leave-in treatment with amino acids from plant collagen and other plant extracts that strengthen the hair and encourage growth. Once a week after washing my hair and using a hair mask, I’ll use this wonderfully smelling treatment in my hair. Since then – I have the feeling – my normally thin hair is stronger, fuller and shinier than usual.
I also like the procedure: Breaking open the glass ampule and spreading the contents, which is like medicine for the hair, on my head. And because it’s supposed to be good to appropriate rituals, I’ve established this procedure as a permanent weekend ritual.
