Veronika Heilbrunner makes pajamas into streetwear and has put together an elegant shopping list
While I was imagining how to wear all those amazing, beautiful pajama suits (made up of bathrobe jackets and wide pants) in the Pre-Fall collections, I happened to stumble on this fun column in one of my favorite newspaper magazine supplements called Zeit Magazin (there’s also a biannual English language issue with a collection of all the stories) about Hugh Hefner and his famous Playboy mansion. And, while this author was fantasizing about who would buy that mansion and for what reason, I started thinking about his signature look: an open silk shirt with a silky bathrobe over the top, all day long. Yes, he does look quite dusty and even slightly offensive in it, but somehow I’m fascinated with this male “role model”.
Apparently, all I’ve wanted to wear since I saw this is luxurious silk pajama suits with slippers. My favorites from the collections are the mink belt and pants look by Fendi and the silk print version by Roberto Cavalli paired with Chucks. The most important thing about this look is definitely the attitude you have to wear with it: elegant and confident during the day – just as the old master Hugh taught us. That said, I’d go a bit further and definitely take it to the streets!

My take on the look in Alex Eagle’s silk robe: go all in with double velvet! Velvet pants from & Other Stories x Rodarte, velvet Paisley shirt by Etro, and sandals by Tabitha Simmons. Or for a more summery, easy feel, just wear it as a dress – a safety pin on the sash does the trick and you can tone it down with simple sneakers like a pair of Converse and a fun bag like my J.W.Anderson Airplane.
Definitely worth investing in: the amazing Vetements velvet jacket and silk kimonos by Chloe, Araks, and Ganni!
