Editor Ori shows her favorite Resort Collection 2017 picks and explains what makes them so special this season
Ahh Resort….one of my favourite collections! Why? Because it offers us a bright flash of summer warmth in the midst of the cold, cold winter. Originally created for the affluent (who spent their winters in sunnier climes), Resort Collections boast vibrant colors and glossy finishes – making these items a perfect fit for the sunshine, but also for your Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
Watching the Resort shows, I was in awe of the fabrics, structures, and colors on display. So for this editorial, we’ve selected items that have unique textures and details – like these Dolce & Gabbana pumps, which are definitely my dream party shoes! These beauties are as close as shoes get to fine jewelry with their hexagonal-shaped heel encrusted with embellishments. Versatile and elegant, they can make absolutely any look work: from a simple black dress, to jeans and a white t-shirt – and they work equally well in summer paired with a light mousseline dress.
Another pair that caught our eye were these black mules by Balenciaga with bright red twisted heels and a stunning, contemporary feel. Also noteworthy, the Ghianda Saddle Bag by Altuzarra, which shows off a braided and knotted trim crafted from grainy calfskin. Easily worn on the shoulder or cross-body, this practical bag is both bourgeois and bohemian.

Mary Katrantzou’s Resort lookbook was one of my favourites: colourful, heavy on the prints, with beautiful plissé and generous volume. This long skirt can be worn throughout the year. Made from the softest silk, this print takes me back to my childhood when I spent endless hours playing with my father’s famous tie collection. With such an appealing aesthetic, this piece can also be hung on the wall for guests to admire (yes, fashion can also be art!)
Aside from the visual feast, Resort shows give us a taste of each collection’s cultural heritage. From the Latino flavour of Louis Vuitton in Brazil to the sexy salsa of Chanel in Cuba, the end result is any girl’s dream: fresh, playful, and colourful, but with a touch of both modernity and tradition. Without a doubt, the shoes at Chanel were my personal highlight, a variety of mules and derby shoes made from classic materials elegantly combined with metallic, pearl, and pastel. God bless Resort!

French and Swiss, Oriane moved to Berlin to pursue her interest in all things creative. She loves art and photography and does a lot of yoga, also to balance out her passion for great cuisine - a real foodie so to say. And of course, she is obsessed with fashion, which you can tell from her weakness for peplum cuts and ruffles.
