Veronika Heilbrunner loves her Ancient Greek Sandals: Thanks to their simplicity, they’re absolute eye-catchers – and the perfect summer sandal
When I bought myself a simple black pair of Ancient Greek Sandals three years ago, I had no idea.
I’m always on the lookout for sandals that, on one side, have a lot of straps so that my less than perfectly delicate feet are at least half-way covered, but on the other allow for a lot of sun and air to reach the skin so that my feet have the opportunity to tan, because in my opinion, they look better that way. These sandals fit that criteria. And as I discovered over time, also a few others – like, for example, that they’re always a formidable pairing to really elegant dresses in the evening. At the moment, the best is with silky slip or flowing boho dresses. At the same time that they make no statement at all, they still are one. Of course, they’re also absolutely perfect with my denim shorts and for the way to the beach. They are delicate and slim – and if you wear them when you’re on your way somewhere, they fit even in the smallest bags. Yes, and finally, they’re even ultra-comfortable.
At the beginning, it took a while before I understood the best way to tie them. Not too loose, because then they slide, but also never too tight because that cuts in immediately – so in any case first around the Achilles tendon and then over the instep, then the leather sole is held under the foot, where it belongs.
When I placed the natural leather version into my digital shopping cart at the first warm rays of summer only to immediately click “buy”, and as if I were remote controlled to do so, I was a little surprised at myself – I’m usually far from the systematic “I-buy-all-my-favorite-styles-in-every-available-color” type of shopper. Whatever. My three-year-old pair is happy to have some new blood around, and I can hardly wait to take them out for Paris Couture.
