Balenciaga and mytheresa.com got together for their new collaboration Tourists

Ever since infamous Demna Gvasalia stepped into the picture at Balenciaga, the prestigious house is living through a sort of modern renaissance. Shortly after the Georgian designer has presented his second women’s wear collection at Paris Fashion Week, last season’s debut will be hitting the stores and can be purchased at our all time favorite retailer mytheresa.com. After the fashion giants first joined forces in 2015 for their short film Une Incroyable Excuse Balenciaga and mytheresa.com have another collaboration underway: this time around under the title Tourists. Once again, the short was directed by filmmaker, writer and Central Saint Martin’s graduate Danny Sangra.

In the two minute clip we see three models and a guide exploring famous sights and monuments around the city of Paris. As the man babbles on about culture trivia, the girls couldn’t be less interested; neither the Tuileries, nor a Bateau Mouche ride on the Seine, nor some mildly obvious facts about the Louvre seem to strike a chord with them. However, they miraculously find time for a quick wardrobe change in between. The trio sports eccentric outlines and dazzling color combinations and between the checked pant suit with shoulder pads and the vibrant signature parka no highlight of the collection is omitted. Almost as an aside, one of the girls casually turns a GoPro cam into a piece of accessory.

It isn’t until the group arrives at the infamous “Catacombes de Paris”, an underground ossuaries established in 1810, that the models break their silence and begin giggling, dancing and most importantly, taking selfies.

In a way, the clip serves as a perfect persiflage on the tale of Gvasalia’s recent fashion disruption: bored youth turns ancient traditions upside down and does their own thing instead. As they say: the kids are alright..
